What is the Evolutionary Agilist™ Index?
Most assessments ask people what they think is happening. The Evolutionary Agilist™ Index looks at what's actually happening.
It's a proprietary behavioural assessment developed by Berriault & Associates that gives your organization a numeric score across eight areas that directly affect how your team performs and how sustainable that performance is over time. It's the starting point for the Stop Competing™ System and available as a standalone engagement for organizations that want a clear, honest picture before committing to anything further.
Unlike assessments that measure framework compliance or process maturity, the Evolutionary Agilist™ Index is behaviourally observational. It measures what people do how decisions get made, how priorities are set, how trust actually functions under pressure not what they report in a survey.
What It Measures
The Index scores your organization across eight areas:
Leadership How decisions get made, communicated, and reinforced. Whether leaders are creating clarity or inadvertently creating noise.
Strategic Alignment Whether priorities are clear, competing work is controlled, and the organization is genuinely moving in the same direction, not just saying it is.
Team Enablement Whether teams can execute effectively without constant blockers, interruptions, or having to wait for someone above them to resolve what they should be able to handle themselves.
Value Creation Whether the effort being put in actually translates into outcomes that customers notice and appreciate or whether busy and productive have become the same word.
Trust & Transparency Whether issues surface early when they can still be resolved, or fester quietly until they become something bigger and more disruptive.
Team Health & Growth Whether the pace of work is sustainable and whether continuous learning is genuinely embedded in the culture or whether the team is running on fumes and calling it performance.
Strategic Budgeting Whether funding supports the priorities that matter most, or inadvertently creates competition and conflict between the things leadership says are important.
Delivery & Flow Whether work moves through the system cleanly or whether it keeps getting stuck, delayed, handed off, and redone before it ever reaches the finish line.
How It Works
The assessment runs over 2–3 weeks and uses three methods to build an honest picture:
- Surveys — gathering structured input from leaders and team members
- Interviews — understanding the context, constraints, and patterns that surveys alone don't capture
- Observation — watching how work actually moves, not just how people describe it
The combination matters. Surveys show what people think is happening. Observation shows what's actually happening. Interviews explain the gap between the two.
What You Get
At the end of the assessment you receive:
- A numeric score across all eight areas — a concrete baseline you can track and improve over time
- A clear map of where friction is building and what it's costing the organization
- A prioritized, behaviour-first roadmap of the specific moves most likely to create real lift
- A debrief session with Jeremy to walk through the findings, the cost of leaving friction unresolved, and the path forward
The output is practical and actionable, not a 40-page deck that sits on a shelf.
How It's Different
Most organizational assessments do one of two things: they check whether you're following a framework correctly, or they ask people to rate themselves on a scale. Neither tells you what's actually happening.
The Evolutionary Agilist™ Index doesn't measure framework compliance. It measures behaviour, the daily patterns, decisions, and interactions that determine whether your organization performs sustainably or keeps producing the same friction regardless of what process it's running.
It also produces an actual numeric score, which means you can measure progress over time instead of walking away with a list of observations and no way to track whether anything changed.
When to Use It
The Evolutionary Agilist™ Index is the right starting point when:
- You sense friction but can't pinpoint exactly where it's coming from
- A previous change effort didn't stick and you want to understand why before trying again
- You're preparing for a larger transformation and want a clear baseline before you begin
- Leadership alignment feels off but nobody can agree on what's actually broken
- You want a credible, measurable way to track organizational improvement over time
It's used as Phase 1 of the Stop Competing™ System and available as a standalone engagement for organizations that aren't ready for the full system yet.
How Often to Reassess
We recommend reassessing every six months. Enough time for behavioural change to take root and show up in the scores, but not so long that new friction goes undetected. Regular reassessments also give leaders a visible, credible way to show their teams that progress is real.
Ready to See What's Actually Happening?
Most leaders walk away with a clear picture of what's creating the most drag and a specific place to start.
Book a focused call and we'll walk you through what the assessment covers, what it costs, and whether it's the right starting point for where your organization is right now.
